How much do you believe--- Lk20:27-38

This is really a difficult question: Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be?  (Lk20:27-38) Of course, Jesus Christ our Lord has already given them a good answer which enlightens these Sadducees' faith. They wanted to deny the Resurrection, but exposed the problems of their faith.  What are their problems?

1. They used logical thinking to conduct their faith

The first problem of the Sadducees' is they used logical thinking to deny their faith. From this story one woman married seven brothers, we know the Sadducees are very smart people who could create this good story. From our imagination, this kind of thing could happen, one woman continued to marry seven brothers without a child. And then, if there is a resurrection, whose wife will that woman be? Because this woman could not become a wife of seven of the brothers, they conclude there is not a resurrection. With the logical thinking of the Sadducees, their conclusion sounds reasonable. They used their unsolvable problem to deny something they did not understand.

Faith, as well as life, is a reality. Life is not a conclusion of logical thinking. Faith is also not a conclusion of logical thinking. Life and faith are gifts from God which are beyond our human logic.  As a father or mother you know that you cannot understand your children through logical thinking. Every child has his or her personality and gift, although they come from the same parents.  From our logical thinking, after our ancestors committed the first sin, there should be no hope for them and us.  But our God is a merciful God. From our logical thinking, when it comes to sins, no one will be saved. But our God has saved us through our Lord Jesus Christ who has opened the door of Heaven again for us. Faith is the answer for all our problems. Faith is the key to understanding our lives, the world and our future through God.

2. They used their experience to think of Heaven

The second problem of the Sadducees is they used their life experience to conclude the life in Heaven. For the Sadducees, one woman cannot become a wife of seven brothers at the same time, so, it is impossible to have a resurrection. They thought that something that could not happen in this world now, could not happen in the future.
Here we face a situation of thinking our life or doing theology which many of us also will face in our life.  For Christians, traditionally, we understand our life and faith from above, which is God being revealed to us through Jesus Christ. Contemporary people and some scholars argue that we also should understand our life and faith from below, which is our human experience. Some scholars also separate the four gospels as the understanding of God and human life from above, such as the Gospel of John, and from below, such as the Gospel of Matthew,  Mark and Luke. Actually understanding God and our human life from both above and below are very important. From above which is the revelation of God through Jesus Christ, we understand the authentic meaning of life and faith, and  then, we try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and practice it in our daily
